75th GJA Anniversary: Journalists should be proud of impact on Ghana’s democracy- Kabral Blay

Ghanaian journalist and diplomat, Amb. Kabral Blay Amihere has asserted that Ghanaian journalists should be proud of themselves for the contribution they have made on Ghana’s democracy.

He said despite concerns raised about unethical behaviors of some journalists, and the attacks on practitioners, there is every proof that elections held in Ghana have benefited from the hard work of the media.

He said this at the 75th GJA Anniversary Public Lecture held on June 18,2024 at the Social Science Block of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

“As the GJA celebrates its 75th anniversary, Ghanaian Journalists, Ghanaian media should feel proud and gratified about their impact on Ghana’s democracy and development. I dare say that journalists or journalism has contributed to the development of Ghana, and its democracy more than any other profession,” he said.

Amb. Kabral Blay Amihere  continued that,”We must and recognise and honour the contribution of other professionals but such has been the net positive effect on Ghana’s independence from the Gold Coast till today that Ghanaian journalists should have every reason to feel proud about their impact and contributions.”

He recognised and commended the efforts of the Founding Fathers of the Ghanaian media and their contributions to national development.

He said he is aware of the efforts of the current President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour to make the GJA great and commended him for his efforts.

 75th GJA Anniversary

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), launched its 75th Anniversary in Accra on Wednesday, April 18, 2024.

The theme for the anniversary is “75 Years of Excellence in Journalism: Honouring the past, embracing the present, shaping the future”.
