High fares: Don’t blame us-Spare parts dealers fire transport operators

The Financial Secretary of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, Nana Kwabena Peprah, has urged transport operators not to blame the fares on the alleged high prices of spare parts.

The caution comes after the leadership of transport operators refused to adjust fares despite the reduction in fuel prices. and the call by GUTA to the business community to adjust the prices of goods and services.

In a statement, GUTA appreciated the efforts being made by the government and the Bank of Ghana to stabilize the Cedi and consequently asked the business community to adjust the prices of goods and services to reflect the gains being made by the national currency.

Despite the call, some members have still not adjusted their prices.

Nana Kwabena Peprah said on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, that the GPRTU has steadfastly refused to lower transportation costs as a result of the drop in fuel prices.

Meanwhile, he said spare parts dealers have reduced their prices, and so the GPRTU should not use that as an excuse to maintain the current transport fares, which were initially increased because of the hike in fuel prices.
He continued, “The same dollar that we use to buy fuel is the same dollar that we use to purchase spare parts. So, if the dollar is down, we do not see why we should not reduce prices. We have to adjust the prices for people to be okay.”
