Nkwanta shooting: Death toll rises to 8

Eight deaths have been recorded following the ethnic clashes at Adele, Challa and Akyode communities in the Oti Region.

The clash has also led to the destruction of properties, with residents fleeing.

Oti Regional Minister Joshua Makubu says it is uncertain when the curfew will be lifted.

“This evening, my police commander, after they had gone round to convey the bodies, said the number stands at 8 bodies,” Oti Regional Minister, Joshua Makubu told pressmen.

The Adele, Challa, and Akyode ethnic groups have been involved in tribal conflicts over land litigation issues in recent times.

The government has imposed a curfew on Nkwanta Township in the Oti Region, effective Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

A statement signed by the Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery, indicated that the curfew is from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., effective Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
