IGP and POMAB visit family of deceased Asante Kotoko Supporter

The Inspector General of Police(IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare and the Police Management Board (POMAB) has visited the Family of deceased Asante Kotoko Supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Pooley at Asawase in the  Ashanti Region.

The move was to commiserate with the family over the lost of their son.

Pooley lost his life after he was stubbed on Sunday, February 2,2025 by alleged supporters of Nsoatreman FC when the team met with Asante Kotoko on the Match Day 19 of the Ghana Premier League.

The match which was played at the Nana Kromansah Park, at Nsoatre resulted in 1:0 against Asante Kotoko.

According to reports, during the match, there was a scuffle between the supporters, resulting to the death of Pooley.

Due to this, the Ghana Foothball Association (GFA) placed a ban on the home of Nsoatreman FC.

The club has also withdrawn from the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

Meanwhile, the death of Pooley has raised a lot of concerns on the security of supporters and players at the various stadia.

Prior to visiting Pooley’s family on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the IGP and his team visited the Asante Kotoko FC Secretariat in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking with the Family, the IGP assured them of the support of the Police concerning the burial of the victim, urging the family to stay strong.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals in connection with the violent disturbances that occurred on Sunday, 2nd February 2025, during a football match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC at Nsoatre in the Bono Region.

The suspects are Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Agyemang Duah Owusu and Kyeremeh Joseph.

In a statement by the Ghana Police Service signed by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, who is the Director of Public Affairs, the Service noted that all three suspects are currently in Police custody assisting in the investigation. 

According to the Police, a search conducted in the room of suspect Agyemang Duah Owusu led to the retrieval of two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition.
