Chartered Economist and running mate of the All-People’s Congress (APC), Rev. Dr. Worlanyo Mensah, says Ghana’s currency, the cedi, could appreciate to 9 cedis to the dollar within the next three months—if current economic strategies are properly implemented and sustained.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s Agenda Show in a one-on-one interview with Bernard Lav, Dr. Mensah praised the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison, for his professionalism and resilience under pressure.

“The current BoG Governor cannot be remote-controlled by government. If you try that, he will resign. That’s why he’s confident and able to put the right liquidity measures in place,” – he stated.

Dr. Mensah, who is affiliated with both the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Economists, said close monitoring of the Governor’s work has revealed an encouraging approach to stabilizing the economy.

He noted that ongoing signals from the central bank, including a crackdown on dollar pricing by local businesses, were already yielding positive signs.

“He has sent strong signals for all those charging in dollars to stop. People are responding. That’s the kind of leadership that sacrifices for the people,” – he added.

According to him, if stakeholders play their part and policies remain focused, Ghana could see a real turnaround in its economic performance soon.

While expressing optimism in Dr. Addison’s leadership, Dr. Mensah emphasized that sustaining economic stability is a shared responsibility.

“We can trust Dr. Asiamah, but this is a collective effort,” – he concluded.
