“If Not for Elder Tobbin, I Wouldn’t Be Here” – Dwumfour After Re-election Victory

Re-elected President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has credited his successful second-term bid to divine grace and the steadfast support of key individuals—especially Elder Dr. Samuel Nana Amo Tobbin I, Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies.

“If not for Elder Tobbin, I wouldn’t be here,” Mr. Dwumfour declared during his acceptance speech on Monday evening, emotionally acknowledging the role of his “very own big brother” and Boss in his journey.

With a heart “full of immense gratitude,” Mr. Dwumfour also thanked God for sustaining him and acknowledged the support of two other significant figures: Mr. Alex Apau Dadey, Executive Chairman of the KGL Group, and Council of State Member Maxwell Boakye, who represents the Western Region.

Albert Kwabena Dwumfour secured a resounding victory to retain his position as President of the Ghana Journalists Association, trouncing his closest contender Charles Yao Mawusi by a wide margin.

Dwumfour polled 445 votes, representing 65%, while Mawusi managed 245 votes (35%) in what analysts described as a decisive mandate from GJA members across the country.

“This victory is not mine alone. It is a victory for every journalist,” – Dwumfour told a cheering crowd of colleagues, media practitioners, and dignitaries.

He noted that the 2025 GJA election was the smoothest he has ever witnessed, praising the Elections Committee, the Electoral Commission, and technical advisers for their roles in ensuring a transparent and peaceful process.

Dwumfour, who begins his second term amid widespread support, urged his fellow journalists to continue to recognize the “God factor” in all things. “You can do nothing without God; with Him, all things are possible,” he emphasized.

His message struck a chord with many in the media fraternity, as he pledged to build on the foundations laid in his first term and advance the welfare of Ghanaian journalists across the country.
