Presidential aspirants urged to eschew tribal comments during campaign

Voices Against tribalism, a social development research and advocacy based Non Governmental organization, has called on all 12 Presidential aspirants to desist from tribal comments as they begin their campaign.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) on Friday 12th October okayed 12 our of the 19 candidates who filed their nominations to contest the 2020 General elections.

Voices against tribalism, a social development research and advocacy based Non Governmental organization has extended its congratulatory messages to the aspirants.

The group also seized the opportunity to call on all aspirants to ensure that their comments during their campaigns are devoid of tribal sentiments.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s Midday News Wednesday, Spokesperson for Voices Against tribalism, Raymond Kuudaah, noted that there were isolated incidents of tribal intolerance in some parts of the country during the voters registration exercise which ended in August 2020 and also on some campaign platforms.

That, he said,  has generated needles tension which undermines the peace and Security of Ghana.

The group has also called on all Presidential and parliamentary candidates who travel the length and breadth of the country to campaign to do so with decorum to ensure the peace we enjoy in this country is sustained.

“Ghana is a nation of people united by the diversity of our culture therefore under no circumstance should any of the political parties or presidential aspirants to do their campaign capitalizating on cultural or tribal sentiments. We owe it a duty to protect the nation and its people from comments that divide us and pursue a path of inclusiveness, hope ,peace, unity, in diversity so that we can collectively advance the development of our country .Good luck to all political parties, Presidential aspirants and may Ghana emerge victorious after 7th December 2020,” he added.
