The Minister Designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has promised to engage traditional and opinion leaders on ways to enhance the lives of the aged in witches camps across the country.
She noted that will include a rebrand and the renovation of some witches camp to provide them with all amenities to make their lives better.
The Ministry of Gender has come under serious criticism from stakeholders and civil society groups, including the Ghana Chapter of Amnesty International for not doing enough as a ministry after attacks on three elderly women in the Savannah Region who faced witchcraft allegations went viral on social media.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate, Professor Opoku-Agyemang during an address to community members and inmates of the Gambaga Witches Camp promised to sensitize people against the practice, and reintegrate inmates into their communities.
Speaking to the Appointments Committee of Parliament, The Minister Designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, noted that when given the nod, he will visit some of the camps and engage some of these alleged witches and also engage traditional and opinion leaders in these areas to get a very clear picture of what ought to be done
