AMA Presiding Member Thanks MLGRD & ILGS for Organizing Capacity Training

In a recent development, the Presiding Member of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Hon. Alfred Asiedu Adjei, extended his heartfelt appreciation to the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development (MLGDRD) and the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) for organizing a nationwide capacity training program aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of Assembly Members and Unit Committee members.

The training, which is taking place across all 261 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), provided participants with a deep understanding of their roles and responsibilities within Ghana’s decentralization framework.

In an interview with Atinka TV news at the climax of the of the two-day program, Hon. Alfred Asiedu Adjei emphasized the importance of the training, calling it “transformative and timely.” He noted.

“The program was designed to help Assembly Members transition effectively into their roles. The programme offered a comprehensive understanding of Ghana’s decentralization system, the Assembly structure, and the legal framework within which members operate,” Hon. Adjei remarked. He further highlighted the training’s focus on leadership, ethics, and accountability, urging Assembly Members to apply the lessons learned in their respective communities.

The presiding member stressed on the key takeaway from this training saying members must not only absorb the knowledge but implement it in ways that will directly benefit their various communities. We are the champions of local development, and it’s crucial that we embrace this responsibility with dedication,” he stressed.
The training covered critical areas such as urban planning, resource management, and community engagement, all of which according to Hon. Alfred Adjei, Paa Joe are instrumental in improving service delivery in sectors like sanitation, infrastructure development, and public safety.

He also commended the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, including the hon. minister for Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, Hon. Martin Adjei~Korsah, the Regional Minister, Hon Titus Glover, MMDCEs and others in making the program a success by sincerely grateful for the support received in organizing the training marks a significant step in strengthening local governance and ensuring that Assembly Members are well-equipped to fulfill their duties effectively.

The Four [ 4 ] Term Presiding member [ PM ] For AMA and also three [ 3 ] Term Assemblymember and again the three Term Secretary For Greater Accra Presiding Members Association concluded by encouraging his fellow Assembly Members to take the knowledge gained back to their communities and implement it with a strong sense of purpose and accountability. He underscored the importance of ensuring that the benefits of the training translate into tangible improvements in the lives of their constituents.

The training program, held from 23rd September to 19th October 2024, is part of ongoing efforts to build the capacity of local government officials and enhance governance at the grassroots level, contributing to Ghana’s broader national development agenda.
