A picture of a tree sprouted with apples in Wiamoase in the Ashanti Region has gone viral on social media.
This contradicts the existing notion that apples cannot be cultivated on Ghanaian soil.
A facebook user, Barima Nana Osei Bonsu, who posted videos and pictures of the apple tree situated on a compound said it took 5 years for the tree to bear the apple fruits.
“So I made a post of an apple tree bearing fruit in Ghana-Wiamoase. We plead with authorities to come to the aid of the family to get all the needed medicines to keep this in shape,” he wrote on Facebook.
He has since called on Agricultural researchers and experts to come and examine the tree, and if possible make available seeds and seedlings for mass production.
