Christmas: Power of Love Foundation fetes Dzorwulu Special School

The Power of Love Foundation has feted the Dzorwulu Special School to put a smile on the faces of the Special Children during the festive season.

At a Christmas party which was held for the Children with Special needs, there were activities including rapping, musical chairs, choreography and dance battles between the Children.

Speaking with the media, the Founder Power of Love Foundation, Madam Philomena Nana Yaa Asantewa Debrah noted that the about 20 years ago, the Foundation started as Christian Charity Club, an all women’s club that did a lot of developmental projects across the country.

Although she was the Founder, she said with time, most of the members became old while some passed and so she decided therefore to create another Foundation which is the Power of Love.

Listing some works done under the Foundation, Madam Philomena Nana Yaa Asantewa Debrah mentioned a party was held for the Tamale Physically Handicapped, the Akropong School for the Blind and the Mampong School for the Deaf and Blind at the Aburi Botanical Gardens, saying it was an exciting feeling for all parties.

“We have done a lot of work in the whole country. At the Mamobi Polyclinic, we did a baby show, we bought cooking utensils for the Mary-Loius Hospital, we have done a Foundation that we gave the University of Ghana Medical School with Generals, We did the playground for Akropong School for the Blind, just to mention a few,” she said.

Madam Philomena Nana Yaa Asantewa Debrah encouraged all to emulate the same in order to put a smile on the faces of the Children.

“I chose this School because at some point, we have to put a smile on the faces of the Children that are here, not because we have much but with the little that we can, we have to give so that they will be happy and their hearts will be at peace,” she added.

After the party at the Dzorwulu Special School, she observed that the school needed weeding, assuring that by the time school re-opens, she will gather equipment to clear the weeds at the school.

She noted that there are a lot of entities that need help across the country, encouraging all to go and support all those who need help.

Meanwhile, she also said she has created another Foundation, ‘Identify, Equate and Solve’, saying the Foundation intends to bring women together to fight against illegal mining and the pollution of water bodies across the country since women and children are the ones who are mostly affected.

For his part, Headmaster of Dzorwulu Special School, Mr Frederick Tetteh, also debunked notions that Children with Special needs are of rivers or ‘river gods’.

“If you have a child with special needs, it does not mean the child is of river or of the ‘deity’, it has to do with issues in childbirth.
This school is not just in Dzorwulu, there are a number of them across the whole Country so if you have a Child with Special needs, you have to go to the school and they will surely help you so that people will not call your children ‘river gods’,” he said.

Mr Frederick Tetteh also expressed appreciation to Power of Love Foundation for the kind gesture.

He encouraged all to extend love to the Dzorwulu Special School and all others across the country.
