Closure of Komenda Sugar Factory cause of untold hardships – Omanhene

Omanhen of Komenda Traditional Area, Nana Kojo Kru II, has attributed the hardship in the Komenda Traditional area to the closure of the Komenda Sugar factory.

The Komenda sugar factory was inaugurated in May 2016 but operational challenges including inadequate supply of sugarcane to feed the factory among others, led to its closure.

The factory, which was expected to create over 7,000 direct and indirect jobs but has since not been operational.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Omanhen of Komenda Traditional Area, Nana Kojo Kru II mentioned that the factory which is currently in a deplorable state has turned in to a white elephant.

He stated that, the land owners are giving him a lot of pressure since most of them  have still not received the compensation due them.

According to him, the inability of the factory to begin operations has also affected the development of the area.

He called on the government to advance measures to restore the factory in order to reduce the hardship in the area.
