Common External Tariffs crippling our businesses – GUTA

President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), J.K Obeng says the introduction of the Common External Tariffs (CET) is having a huge toll on their businesses, making importation difficult.

According to Mr. Obeng, Import and export duties have doubled due to the Common External Tariffs.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, President for the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), explained that although GUTA is battling with  19 levies, their major concern is the CET.

“The levies and taxes on duties amount to about 50% which  sometimes  exceed our capital. This is the major reason why products are very expensive. if the purchasing power is not available, importers will be forced to go out of business “, he said.

He called on the government to  convince  ECOWAS to  review the Common External Tariffs (CET).
