Covid-19: EC urges public to comply with safety protocols at polling centers

Director of Communications at the Electoral Commission, Sylvia Annor, has asked the general public to strictly comply with the laid down Covid-19 safety precautions at the various Polling stations across the country.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) commenced a nationwide voter registration exercise today Tuesday, June 30 towards the compilation of a new electoral ahead of the December polls.
The exercise covers over 33,367 registration centres across the country.
In line with preventing the spread of covid-19, the EC said the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has deployed over 7,000 health assistants to help ensure that safety precautions are strictly adhered to.
However , there have been reports that although persons who have queued at the various polling centers are observing  social distancing and are in nose masks, same cannot be said for those outside the polling centers.
Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, Director of Communications at the Electoral Commission, Sylvia Annor, cautioned the public against observing the protocols only at the polling centers and consider the fact that the country is not in normal times.
She added that the EC officials might not take note of some of these things since they might be focused on protecting the equipment at the center.
“People must take charge and observe the safety precautions not only at the polling centers. We must desist from standing in groups, social distancing is key”, she added.
The registration will be conducted in five phases, each phase spanning six days with additional days for mop-up.
