Covid-19: Workplace outbreaks contributing to rise in cases-GHS

The Ghana Health Service has disclosed that workplace infections are contributing to the rise in Covid-19 cases.

As at Thursday, January 28, 2021, the number of active cases had jumped to 3,940 after 625 new cases were recorded.

The number of deaths has also jumped to 390.

Speaking at the press conference held at the Information Ministry, Dr Kumah Abogye noted that Greater Accra is the hotspot for Covid-19 outbreaks, urging all to adhere to the safety protocols.

He also noted that the daily infections have moved from 200 and 300 to about 600, a situation he said was alarming.

Dr Kumah Abogye who expressed hope that the daily infections will decline, said it will be achieved if people adhere to the safety protocols.

He called for the promotion of decongestion at workplaces, encouraged virtual meetings and working from home amongst others.

Dr Kumah Aboagye reiterated that covid-19 tests have been made free at public labs once people have referrals.

He said the GHS has improved access by re-emphasizing free testing for the sick and the exposed.

He also noted that from Monday, February 1st 2021, the Ga East PCR Labs will be opened to the public.

Outbreaks in schools

Speaking on infections at schools, he said 3 cases have been reported in 2 senior high schools in the Upper West Region.

He added that 34 contact screening in the Upper West SHS School yielded one additional positive case.

“Thus a school has 3 active cases and the second has one case in Daboase in Western Region,” he added.

Dr Kumah Abogye underscored the need to adhere to Covid-19 protocols.
