Dengue fever: Cases shoot up from 9 to 11

According to the Eastern Regional Ghana Health Service directorate, dengue fever cases have risen to 11 in five (5) districts of the Eastern Region.

The affected districts include Achiase, Akyemansa, Birem North, Central, and South.

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) confirmed the detected dengue fever cases after receiving samples from patients with acute febrile illnesses.

57 out of a total of 103 blood samples for testing.

Speaking at a press conference in Koforidua, Deputy Director in Charge of Public Health Dr. John Ekow Otoo said that unusual cases of clinical malaria that did not respond to antimalarial treatment led to further investigation.

He said a team comprising entomologists and epidemiologists has joined the regional team to conduct a detailed outbreak investigation.

Dr. Otoo stated that the regional health directorate is making every effort to prevent the outbreak from spreading to other districts.

He, however, urged the public to remain vigilant and adhere to the preventive measures to curb the spread of dengue fever.
