District Level Elections: Nkoranza North and Nkoranza South Districts exempted

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Jean Mensa has stated that the District Level Election will be held at all polling stations in all Electoral Areas across the country with the Exception of the Nkoranza North and Nkoranza South Districts in the Bono East Region.

The District Level Elections which will be held on Tuesday, December 19,2023 entails the district assembly elections and the unit committee elections.

The elections are held every four years to elect members to the assembly and unit committees.

Giving an explanation to the exemption at a press briefing held in Accra on Monday, December 18,2023, Mrs Jean Mensa made it known that the tenure of the assembly members and committee members have ended hence Tuesday’s election.

“The District Level Elections will take place at all polling stations in all electoral areas across the country with the exception of Nkoranza North and Nkoranza South districts in the Bono East Region. This is because both districts had their elections in 2021 instead of 2019, hence the term of office of the assembly and the unit committee of both districts will expire in 2025,”She said.

She noted that voting will start at 7 am and end at 5 pm in all polling stations across the country.

“All eligible voters are therefore expected to go to their polling centres to cast their votes,” she said.

She said registered voters whose voter identity cards are missing can still go to the polling centres to cast their votes since their particulars are already in the final register and also their particulars have been inculcated and uploaded in the biometric verification devices.

Therefore, voters who have misplaced their identity cards are still encouraged to their respective polling centres to cast their votes.
