Do not declare results before us- EC warns political parties

The Electoral Commission(EC) has warned its stakeholders, especially political parties and the media not to declare the results of the December 7, 2020 election before the EC does.

Declaring the results before the Commission does, the EC noted could cause chaos, fear and panic to the public hence the caution.

According to the EC Chairperson, Mrs Jean Mensa, the EC is the only body and institution cloaked with power and authority to declare the Presidential and Parliamentary results, urging the public not to pay attention to such results.

“We therefore caution all stakeholders, I.e. the political parties and the media to resist from declaring the results. We have indicated our intention to declare the final certified results in a timely manner and we will do so, God being our helper,” Mrs Mensa said.

She also called on all stakeholders to remain patient and leave the EC to perform its functions.

She entreated the media to remain true to their creed and profession, urging the media to remain decorous in their reportage.

She also pledged on behalf of the entire commission that it will remain true to its motto and operate with fairness and integrity and as well promote transparency till the very end.

Mrs Mensa again called on EC staff and field officials to also let truth guide them and let integrity preserve them.

She encouraged all voters to go out and vote peacefully.
