Election 2024: Special Voting underway

Special voting is going on right now at some polling places across Ghana. This is a big step toward the general elections on December 7.

About 131,478 people, or 0.007% of the total registered voters of 18,741,159, are taking part in today’s exercise

The voters include security officers, medical officers, journalists , officials of the Electoral Commission etc.

These exercises are for people who will play important parts on election day. They are meant to help them vote early and make sure they can do their jobs on time.

Meanwhile the Electoral Commission has ordered a recall and reprinting of ballot papers for the Eastern and Western Regions following a security breach.

At an emergency press briefing yesterday, Chairperson of the EC Jean Mensa said that the decision was based on a report from National Security that a single ballot paper that had been tampered with and was supposed to be thrown away had been found outside the Checkpoint Printing House, which was in charge of printing the ballot papers for the two regions.

Due to the recall, the special election for the Eastern and Western Regions, which was supposed to have taken place today, has been moved to Thursday, December 5. Meanwhile, the  December 7 general election will go as planned.
