Gov’t cuts Hajj costs from 75k to 62k

In a bid to fulfill campaign promise, President Mahama’s Hajj Task Force, led by Collins Dauda, has announced a reduction in Hajj pilgrimage fees from GH¢75,000 to GH¢62,000.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, February 5,2025.

During the election campaign, the NDC strongly criticized the previous fees under the NPP government, calling them exorbitant and pledging to bring them down.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim Speaking with Bullet News described the move as a good one.

According to her, Hajj is a spiritual exercise but not a profitable venture and therefore reducing the cost will enable more Muslims to participate in the exercise.

Meanwhile, President Mahama’s Hajj task force revealed that NPP hajj administration left a debt of over five million dollars ($5million).
