Hepatitis Foundation of Ghana to mark World Hepatitis Day with free screening, vaccination

Hepatitis Foundation of Ghana will be organizing free screening and vaccination on Saturday, 28th July, 2018 to mark World Hepatitis Day.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Silver Star Tower at the Airport area and they therefore entreat the general public to participate in the exercise.

According to the President of the foundation, Mr. Theobald Owusu-Ansah, it is imperative for people to check and know their status since the type A of the hepatitis infection is now gaining grounds in Ghana.

In an interview  with Abena Dufie Aboagye on Atinka TV’s Ghana Nie Tuesday, he said, “unlike previous years where only cases of the B-type were rampant in Ghana, the same cannot be said now”.

He noted that, Hepatitis A is caused through unhygienic conditions. To this, he said “the A-type is caused by eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water…you know in Ghana now, even when we go to our market arenas you find a lot of rubbish with no one paying attention,” he said.

Mr Owusu Anash said organizations like the Okyeame Kwame Foundation, Save Your Liver Foundation, Comfort Foundation and other NGOs have cooperated with the Hepatitis Foundation of Ghana to mark Saturday’s event.

He also added that on the 4th August 2018, a free screening exercise would be organized at Kasoa.
