I’ll only accept fair and  transparent election results– Mahama tells BBC

John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says he will only accept the results of Saturday’s general election if the process is conducted transparently and fairly.

In an interview with the BBC, Mahama voiced his worries regarding the integrity of the electoral process and stressed that he would reject the results if the election were marred by violence or irregularities.

“If on the election day, there is widespread ballot snatching, beating of people and the military moving in and intimidating people and thugs are all over the place, rampaging the place, you want me to accept that result? It will depend on the transparency and the fairness of the process,” the NDC  leader warned.

Meanwhile, the two major parties are expected to hold their final rallies earlier today to cap their political campaign ahead of Saturday’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections. The NDC will hold its rally at Madina while the NPP holds its event at the University of Ghana stadium in Accra.

This year’s election is expected to be keenly contested as Mahama seeks a comeback while Dr Bawumia  also wants  to make history by breaking the eight years governance cycle.
