Madina sweeper grabs prestigious award at GESA


Madam Philomena Dzogbo, popularly known as Borla Police in the Adentan and Madina Municipalities, won the Most Distinguished Borla Woman Award at the Ghana Environmental and Sanitation Awards (GESA) 2022, held on Saturday, October 2, 2022, at the AH Hotel in Accra.


The GESA seeks to encourage government, the public sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and individuals in the waste management sector to create synergies to work towards achieving the set goals in the environment and sanitation value chain to attain the Sustainable Development goals (SDG GOAL 6, 13 and 14).


As part of a package for her hard work, the AH Hotel under the able support of the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, announced a free month accommodation for the Borla Woman of the Year.
“Madam Philomena Dzogbo known as Borla Police in the Adentan and Madina Municipalities, will be given special treatment at AH Hotel and Conference for a month, free breakfast, lunch, and dinner of her choice, thank you Maam. Ayeeko!” the Founder and CEO of GESA, Mr. Nanayaw Kwakye-Boadu, announced.


He said this package for Borla Police was to appreciate her hard work, passion, enthusiasm and dedication towards environmental and sanitation promotion.


Speaking with the media after receiving her award, an elated Madam Dzogbo expressed gratitude to God.
“I always look up to God who made everything so beautiful and perfect and that inspires me to continue to dedicate my life to protecting the environment,” she said.


“I work the whole day without any complaints, making sure that Madina is always clean. I am happy that God has rewarded my efforts and sacrifices without even thinking about my salary or position,” Madam Dzogbo indicated.


She gave a firm assurance that she will continue to work hard for a better Ghana and expressed satisfaction with the honour done her.
She was also thankful to the organisers of the awards and encouraged her colleague sweepers to continue to give off their best.
Madam Dzogbo is a sweeper with Zoomlion who is stationed at the La Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly and Madina.


Several people were honoured including eight subsidiaries of the JGC—Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Sewerage Systems Ghana Limited, Metropolitan and Allied Waste Management Services and One Million Bin Project and others.


The Executive Chairman of the JGC, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, General Manager of Metropolitan and Allied Waste Management Services, Mr. Ernest Morgan Acquah, Senior Communications Officer of Zoomlion, Ms, Patricia Ofori Atta, and many others were all awarded on the night.
