Minister accuses Rojo Mettle Nunoo, others of “stealing” UGMC

Minister for the Health, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, has accused Former Deputy Health Minister, Rojo Mettle Nunoo, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey and one Prof. Aaron Nii Lante Lawson of registering the newly built 650-bed University of Ghana Medical Center in their names.

Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive,  he said checks at the Ministry of Health at the Registrar General's Department revealed that the “University of Ghana Medical Centre” was registered in the names of the three individuals.

According to him, all teaching hospitals across the country are not managed by the Ministry of Health and that it only takes care of such  facilities.

“No University manages its Hospital.. the ministry by its rules,  collaborates with the University to give them access to the facility to use as teaching and learning grounds for students. The Ministry of Health manages all teaching hospitals and not the universities,” he added.

The Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Health, Robert Cudjoe has also denied reports that the ministry is embarking on a total takeover of the University of Ghana Medical Center adding that National Security was at the site on the ministry’s orders to assess the security situation at the premises.
