The Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation has made significant strides in modernising and expanding electronic services (eServices) across Ghana.
Through the World Bank-financed eTransform project, 25 post offices have undergone infrastructure upgrades to enhance their capacity to deliver eServices effectively to citizens.
Additionally, 25 post offices have been refurbished to serve as dedicated eServices centers, providing strategic locations for citizens to access digital services.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, this initiative aligns with Ghana’s broader strategy to leverage information and communication technologies (ICT) for improved government service delivery, digital inclusion, and socio-economic development.
The statement disclosed that the upgraded and refurbished post offices were equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including online transaction platforms, electronic communication systems, and digital services tools.
This will streamline administrative processes, improve service efficiency, and offer greater convenience for citizens accessing government services, it added.
The modernised post offices will also support local economic activities by providing easier access to digital platforms for businesses and entrepreneurs. This will enable them to leverage technology to grow their businesses, improve their operations, and access new opportunities.
The eTransform project comprises four components, focusing on creating an enabling environment for e-government and business, upgrading the national identification system, scaling up applications in priority sectors, and providing project management support. Through these efforts, Ghana is poised to strengthen its digital infrastructure and accelerate socio-economic growth by harnessing the transformative power of ICT.
The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to utilizing ICT to bridge digital divides, foster socio-economic development, and improve the livelihoods of citizens. By expanding access to digital services, Ghana aims to create a more inclusive, connected, and prosperous society for all.
