Minority to boycott vetting of Deputy Trade and Industry Minister -designate

The Minority leader in Parliament Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced the minority’s decision not to participate in the vetting of the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry designate, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson revealed this decision in a press statement dated Tuesday, July 2 where he expressed frustration over the already large size of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government and its poor economic performance.

The statement emphasized their incapacity to back President Akufo-Addo’s candidacy, noting the nation’s persistently dire circumstances, such as a dire economic crisis, food hunger, debt default from excessive borrowing, corruption in government, and unnecessary spending.

The Minority also expressed disapproval of the President’s ongoing nomination of new ministers, claiming that this shows a lack of comprehension of the economic chaos brought about by the actions of his government.

They made it clear that they would not support any measures that would put further hardship on Ghanaians, who are already struggling, especially in light of the government’s financial difficulties.

“Members of the Minority Caucus on the Appointments Committee of Parliament will not participate in today’s vetting of the President’s nominee for the post of Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.”

“The Caucus is affronted by the already large size of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government and its poor economic performance.”

“We are again unable to support this nomination by President Akufo-Addo at this time because our country has gone through (and continues to go through) very difficult periods, including crippling economic crisis, food insecurity, debt default as a result of excessive borrowing, corruption in government and wasteful and reckless expenditures,” the statement said.
