Mismanagement of security cause of increasing homicide cases – Expert

Security expert,  Adib Saani, has attributed the increasing number of homicide cases in Ghana to the mismanagement of Security

The statement by the expert follows the murder of the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency, Ekow Quansah Hayford.

The law maker was shot dead by armed robbers on his way from a campaign rally at Nkusukum Mankessim on the Abeadze Duadze road on Friday  dawn.

An eyewitness, who was with the MP as at the time of the incident, said they were returning from a campaign rally when they sighted a truck which was stuck in a middle of the road.

“They thought we were not stopping so they started shooting at us. They came to our vehicle and requested that they hand over our phones and monies to them. They took my phone and money and asked the MP to do same. Just when the MP was about to speak, they dragged him out of the car and told him that politicians are the reason the country is going through hardship. I however managed to run into the bus and all I heard was gun shots”, he narrated.

Reacting to the news on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, Security expert,  Adib Saani said the US State Department Travel Advisory warning to Ghana shows that the rate of crime is on the rise.

He added that the rise of crime rate in Ghana can be attributed to the over 1.2 million illegal guns in the system which is being used to purport crime.

According to him, Ghana on annual basis record about 500 killings, which local authorities have done little or nothing about since the law enforcement  lacks the capacity to be able to effectively deal with the threats.

“So for me, it’s not about elections, it is about the general mismanagement of security in Ghana that has contributed in the increase number of homicide cases in the country. The height of incompetence is that we are doing the wrong thing over and over again and are expecting a different outcome,” he added.
