Parliament will be intervening to find an amicable solution to resolve the recent violent protest by students of kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Hon Stevens Siaka said legislators intend to engage the relevant stakeholders of the school to reach a truce.
His comment follows a violent demonstration by the students that forced the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to shut down the university indefinitely.
The closure of the university has caused students to vacate campus except for foreign students.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Wednesday, Hon Stevens Siaka said the riot at the school was unwarranted.
He indicated that if school authorities had listened to the concerns of the students, the violence would have been averted.
The legislator noted that members of the Education Committee will seek review the decision by the university’s authorities to convert all single-sex halls into the mix.
Hon. Siaka said they may go to KNUST or invite the authorities to Parliament when they reconvene.
