Police put measures in place to ensure post election security

The Ghana Police Service has stated that security agencies in the country have moved into the post election security phase, putting in place additional measures to maintain peace, security, law and order.

According to the Police, there have been limited cases of looting, vandalism and destruction of properties in some locations across the country.

In a statement, the Police said 89 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with various offences during the election.

It noted that 40 of them are directly connected to the acts of vandalism, looting and the destruction of properties.

The Police assured that all the suspects will be put before the court to face justice.

“We would like to caution the public to desist from such acts of violence since the perpetrators will be arrested and taken through the due process of the law,” the Police stated.

Meanwhile, touching on some measures put in place towards ensuring safety and security include, the Police said it is showing visibility through patrols with the other security agencies.

Also, it is conducting intelligence led operations within communities to fish out perpetrators.

The Police also stated that it is providing static security at targeted state facilities while engaging government officials and other stakeholders through reaching out to them.

Again, it stated that a special investigation team is reviewing all videos that have come to its attention to help identify perpetrators and take them through the due process of the law.

“We would also like to thank all Ghanaians for their support throughout the process. We urge all stakeholders to remain calm and wish to assure you of safety and security as well as the protection of properties,” the Police stated.
