The Leadership of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Marketers Association, has stated that the Tanker Drivers want to see commitment from the Government before it can call off its strike.
The Tanker Drivers have been on strike since Monday, June 26, 2023 over bad roads in the petroleum enclave of Tema, Takoradi, Kumasi and Buipe.
According to them, all efforts to get the government to address their issue has proved futile.

Speaking on Atinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ama Gyenfa Ofosu Darkwa, Vice President of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers Association, Mr Gabriel Kumi said the drivers want to see commitment from the Government before they return to work.
He said the Government has not shown any commitment towards the fixing of the roads, adding that the problem has persisted since 2017.
Meanwhile, Mr Gabriel Kumi said two ministries, the Ministry for Roads and Highways and Ministry for Finance must be blamed for what is happening now.
He noted that the Roads Minister, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah has arranged a meeting with the drivers.
However, he also admitted that due to the strike, there will be shortage of gas and Ghanaians will suffer the consequences.
“We saw what happened at Assin North, if the Government channels that same attention to these roads that give Government money, gives the country huge sums of money, I feel it can settle the issue,” he said.
He continued,”We know the Minister can instruct the contractors to go on site immediately. The drivers are not saying the Government should fix all the roads entirely before they call off the strike. That will be an unreasonable request to make because we know that when you start the roads, it takes months. But we want to see commitment, they want to see some commitment, we want to see the government doing something, then we can tell Drivers that the Government has fulfilled its part then we can have some strength to push our men to go and work. This thing started last Friday and it has been almost a week, I am not seeing any commitment from the Government.”
Mr Gabriel Kumi who observed that the Roads Minister was at Assin North for the By-Election hence his failure to meet the LPG Marketers earlier said the issue at hand was more important than the Assin North By-Election, adding that this could affect Ghana’s economy.
