Portions of the Tema Motorway which were under construction for the past week have been opened to traffic following completion of repair works.
Works on the 5.2 meter bailey steel bridge connecting the Tema motorway were this dawn completed and opened to traffic.
The klapa river bridge also known as the Abattoir bridge was replaced by contractors after detection of serious defects on the bridge which went under similar renovation works in 2014.
After weeks of replacing the whole steel bridge and also creating a gridlock of traffic on that stretch, contractor managed to beat the 21-day deadline, after adopting a more sophisticated approach.

As at 6.30am, the traffic situation on the motorway had improved compared to Thursday, with most cars moving freely on that stretch.
The presence of some police personnel who were directing traffic also helped the situation.
Greater Accra Regional Director of the Ghana Highways Authority, Engineer Emmanuel Laryea Odai speaking in an Interview with the press said, they had to employ the use of more additives to make the concrete dry within 24 hours, as against the normal 21 to 28 days, due to the enormous traffic.
He added that the change of plan has also affected the initial budget which could see a rise in the situation budget for the repair works.
Meanwhile, personnel of the Tema Regional MTTD will be stationed on the motorway for days as engineers wrap up the final finishing touches on the motorway with regards to the closure of some detour routes created during the construction work.
