The Twifo Traditional Council in the Central Region, has raised concerns over the increasing incidence of substance abuse among the youth, warning that the trend poses a significant threat to the country’s future leadership.
The council has called on the government to take immediate and decisive action to rescue young people from the dangers of addiction and ignorance.
During the launch of the 2025 Twifo Odwira Festival and the elevation ceremony of Nana Kwadjo Brafo Aduasa II to the position of Sanaahene of the Twifo Traditional Council at Twifo Mampong, the Sanaahene made a passionate plea for the government to adequately resource the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

This, he emphasized, would enable the commission to roll out intensive educational programs targeting the youth on the dangers of drug abuse.
In his address, Nana Kwadjo Brafo Aduasa II stressed the importance of community-wide involvement in youth education. He called for more engagement from churches, mosques, and schools, and underscored that parents, guardians, and other community leaders must also play their part in the upbringing of children, as it is a shared responsibility.
Meanwhile, the Omanhene of Twifo Traditional Council, Obrempong Appiah Nuamah III, who is also a former member of the Council of State, revealed that one of the primary objectives of the 2025 Twifo Odwira Festival will be to establish an educational fund.

The fund, he noted, will be aimed at supporting the educational advancement of the youth in the Twifo area. He further appealed to the Twifo diaspora to contribute generously towards this cause, emphasizing its importance in shaping the future of the youth.
The 2025 Twifo Odwira Festival is scheduled to take place in December and is expected to be a significant event for the Twifo community, with the education of the youth as one of its top priorities.
