We will resist renaming of Adomi Railway Station- Akwamu Traditional Council

The Akwamu Traditional Council has vowed to use all legitimate means to resist attempts to rename the Adomi Railway Station to Juapong Station.

In what looked like anger and anguish, the Paramount Chief of Akwamu Traditional Area, His Royal Majesty, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, the Legislative Instrument published by the Railway Development Authority indicated that there would be an Adomi Railway Station.

However, in a recent development, the infrastructure is likely to bear a new name.
HRM Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III made these remarks during an emergency traditional council meeting held at the Bogyawe Palace in the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region on these developments last Thursday, 31st October 2024.

Odeneho, Akwamuhene demanded that the initial arrangements about the naming of the railway station, be restored.
He further warned that the Akwamu traditional council will go all out to resist the renaming of the Adomi Railway station to protect the culture and heritage of Akwamuman.
“Today is a special day because we heard bad news…We all know this railway line that comes from Tema, through Akwamu land to Mpakadan, which is also Akwamu. The main issue we have is the naming of the Juapong Railway station instead of Adomi Railway station.

“Our case is very simple, the Railway Minister, the Railway Development Authority and everybody knows that where they are trying to name Juapong Station is Adomi station. Adomi is Akwamu and all of us know that is Akwamu land. We don’t know when the Adomi Railway was changed to Juapong Railway station. We were not consulted and will not accept any attempt.

“All that we are saying is that the status quo needs to be restored. The ministry and the government agencies that look over these railway activities, can’t take Akwamus for granted, we won’t agree. We are telling the government emphatically that we won’t agree, no.” Odenho noted
Few months ago, the Akwamu Youth and some leaders took to the streets of Akwamu in Asuogyaman District to protest and demand that, what looked like intentional scheme against the people of Akwamu will not be tolerated.
The group has already pull down a sign post which was erected indicating Juapong Railway Station instead of Adomi Railway Station on the first agreement.
Residents of Akwamu in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region issued a two-weeks ultimatum to the government to address some pertinent issues in the area.
The residents, young and old clad in red and black apparel chanted war songs as they moved from New Akrade to Atimpoku roundabout to drum home their displeasure over what they termed as the neglect of Akwamu by successive governments.
The residents who bemoaned the alleged neglect by successive governments over the weekend took to the streets to demonstrate.

Traditional leaders who took part in the peaceful demonstration dubbed” Walking for Attention” poured libation to invoke the blessings of the gods on the exercise which was heavily supervised by the Akosombo police command with support from the Odumase Division.
To add their voices, The Akwamu Traditional Council together with the paramount chief Odeneho Kwafo Akoto has issued such sterned warning and caution to the railway ministry and the government to as a matter of urgency address the issue hence face the government with their blood.
’’This is the land our forefathers toiled with their blood for us and we will never sit down and watch this going on” the traditional council insisted.
