We’re not selling Ghana Water Company- PRO

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Ghana Water Company Limited, Mr Stanley Martey, has stated clearly that the company has not been sold nor being sold to a private entity to manage it.

It has been rumoured that the company had been sold or was being sold.

Reacting to the claim on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie, with Ama Gyenfa Ofosu Darkwah, Mr Martey said he had never heard the rumour personally.

” …Ghana Water Company Limited is on its feet, and we are working very hard and people are applauding us .How do we say we are going to sell the company? How do you sell the hen that lays that golden egg?” he said.

Mr Martey added that the company is still for government and doing very well.

He said the Company held a big programme, “Accounting to the People” and opened up its doors to allow people to bring in their suggestions, questions and experiences, saying that even the media that attended the programme applauded the company.

Despite the success chalked, he said their biggest challenge is galamsey, saying it makes the cost of production go high because of the pollution of the river bodies. So, let us all come together, especially the media to fight galamsey because if we are able to end it, it will help all of us,” he said.

“If the rate of pollution of river bodies continues like that, one day, the treatment plants will be there and there will be no water to treat.
