Withdraw ‘reckless’ Bawku Chieftaincy allegations – Mamprugu Youth to Ken Agyapong

The Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA), Bawku Chapter, has called on Kennedy Agyapong and his spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, to retract comments alleging that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia imposed a rival chief on the people of Bawku during an election period.

In a statement issued on Thursday, September 4, the group condemned the claim as “reckless, malicious, and dangerous,” warning that it risked inflaming the already volatile Bawku chieftaincy dispute.

MAYA argued that the allegation, which it said was first circulated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2024 election campaign, was now being “shamelessly recycled” by Mr Agyapong and his team.

“It is disgraceful that Mr. Kennedy Agyapong and his spokesperson, who claimed to support the NPP candidate in that election, are now resurrecting the same propaganda,” the statement read.

The association stressed that the Bawku conflict should never be exploited for political purposes, describing such actions as “a direct insult to the people of Bawku and the entire Mamprugu Kingdom.”

MAYA demanded a full and unqualified apology and retraction, cautioning that failure to comply would force them to declare Mr Agyapong’s campaign team persona non grata in the area.

“We will not allow any individual, no matter how highly placed, to trade the peace of Bawku for political expediency. The future of our people is far more important than the desperation of politicians,” the group stated.
