13,500 Health Professionals Recruited Within Past Year – Mahama

SONA 2026

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that 13,500 health professionals have been recruited over the past year to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.

Speaking during the 2026 State of the Nation Address in Parliament, President Mahama said the recruitment forms part of government’s broader commitment to improving access to quality healthcare and addressing staffing gaps in public health facilities.

“Mr. Speaker, in the past year alone, we have recruited 13,500 health professionals to reinforce our healthcare system and improve service delivery,” he stated.

According to the President, the newly engaged personnel include nurses, midwives, doctors, pharmacists, and allied health workers who have been deployed to hospitals, clinics, and community health centers nationwide. He noted that the move is aimed at reducing patient-to-health worker ratios, shortening waiting times, and enhancing healthcare outcomes.

President Mahama emphasized that a strong health system is central to national development, stressing that economic recovery and productivity depend heavily on a healthy population.

He further indicated that the recruitment exercise complements ongoing investments in health infrastructure, medical equipment, and training to ensure that facilities are not only adequately staffed but also well-resourced.

“Our commitment is clear,” he said. “We are building a resilient healthcare system that serves every Ghanaian, regardless of location or income.”

The President assured Parliament that government will continue to prioritize the health sector to sustain improvements in service delivery and public confidence.
