16-Year-Old OKESS Student, Stepfather Arrested for Unlawful Possession of Firearm

A 16-year-old second-year boarding student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) has been arrested by the Tafo-Pankrono Police in the Ashanti Region for unlawful possession of a locally manufactured firearm.

The student, whose name is being withheld due to his age, was found in possession of the weapon during a routine dormitory inspection conducted by school authorities on May 14 at approximately 9:30 a.m.

In a statement issued by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Central Regional Police Command, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, the student reportedly admitted to bringing the weapon to school.

Following the student’s admission, school officials promptly handed him over to the police. During initial questioning, the teenager allegedly named his stepfather, Daniel Owusu Baafi, as the owner of the weapon, which subsequently led to Baafi’s arrest.

According to police, both the student and his stepfather have been granted police enquiry bail. They are expected to report to the station today, Monday, May 19, 2025, to assist with ongoing investigations.

Authorities say the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness due to the potential implications on student safety and school security.
