20-year-old jailed 50 years for killing 74-year-old stroke patient

The Ofaakor District Court presided by Judge Alexander Orae has sentenced 20-year-old, Mohammed Abdullah over the murder of a 74-year-old stroke patient.

Mohammed who was charged with armed robbery and murder was sentenced to 50 years imprisonment with hard labor for the robbery charge.

Abdullah was remanded by the Ofaakor District Court for the brutal act that occurred in the victim’s three-bedroom house at Kasoa Lamptey on January 25, 2024 in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

In court today, February 12, the prosecutor revealed that Mohammed Abdullah tied the woman with a rope, fatally cutting her neck after robbing her of valuable items and an undisclosed amount of money in her home.

The police noted that CCTV footage from the house played a crucial role in capturing Abdullah, leading to his subsequent arrest.

Speaking exclusively to Atinka News’ reporter after the hearing, daughter of the deceased Gifty Obenewaa, stated that although she was mourning she was happy that justice had been served.

Hearing of the murder charge has been adjourned to 22nd February, 2024.
