2nd edition of West Africa Pharma and Healthcare Expo opens in Accra

The second edition of the largest Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Expo, dubbed ‘West Africa Pharma and Healthcare Expo‘ opened in Accra on, Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

The three -day Expo, starting from Tuesday, May 16 to Thursday, is being organized by the WegVorus, a Business Promoter & Exhibition Organizer Headquartered in New Delhi, India, under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Sponsored by MARC.

It brought together about 100 manufacturers and exporters representing the complete sphere of Pharmaceutical, Medical and Healthcare Industry from India, Turkey, USA, Egypt, Italy, Ghana and other countries, in Accra to exhibit their health products including medicines and equipment.

It was also for the exhibitors to network and deliberate on best possible ways to partner other companies to boost the health sector.

It also offered an ideal environment for companies to showcase their products in one of the fastest growing and most lucrative healthcare markets in the world.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Health Minister, Alhaji Mahama Asei Seini underscored the need for the Government to partner with the private sector in order to achieve universal health coverage.

He said there was the need for stronger partnership with the private sector in order to strengthen Ghana’s Health technologies and infrastructure, ensure adequate and timely access to medicines and establish a reliable health financing mechanism.

According to him, the Government was happy to work collaboratively with the stakeholders from the private sector towards the achievement of a universal Health Coverage, explaining that all persons living in Ghana will have the opportunity to access the quality healthcare services they require, wherever they are with cost of care not being a barrier.

Alhaji Mahama Asei also said adopting and investing in the right health equipment and devices, pharmaceuticals and non-drug consumables is crucial to enhancing human life while mitigating the double burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases plaguing Africa region.

He also said the Ministry of Health was happy to associate with the objectives and the mission of the conference which was aimed at building a resilient health care system in the West African Sub Region using modern health technology and collaborative partnership.

The Project Marketing Director for West Africa Pharma and Healthcare Expo, Mr Thomas James walked the visitors through the expedition and thanked them as well as their patrons for coming on board.

Some of the exhibitors were excited to be part of the Expo, expressing hope to break into the African market after the three -day exhibition.
