A 6-year-old boy, Kelvin Ofori Sarfo, known as (Kobby) drowned on Monday at Atonsu in the Asokwa municipality of the Ashanti Region after a heavy downpour.
The unfortunate incident which occurred around 5 pm has left residents in a state of shock.
The parents of the deceased, Madam Abena Konadu and Mr Richard Boakye said a neighbour informed them that their 6-year-old boy had drowned after he went chasing one of his sandals which had fallen into a gutter.
According to reports, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the Police went to the scene to search for the boy but all their efforts proved futile.
However, the Sompahene of Atonsu traditional council, Nana Oteng mensah Bonsu, charged road contractors to make sure they cover abandoned gutters and potholes on that stretch and all roads to avoid calamity in the various communities.

Two plus size women, Faustina Sarfo and Catherine Agyeiwaa qualified at the audition of Atinka TV’s flagship reality show, GTBank Di Asa Season Five, which was held at Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region on Monday, September 13, 2021.
They surprised their contenders with their size, dance skill, and the audience appeal.
Faustina Sarfo and Catherine Agyeiwaa were given souvenirs by all the sponsors of the show.
Faustina Sarfo and Catherine Agyeiwaa will represent the Ashanti Region after all audition are done across the country.
Meanwhile, the next audition would be held on Tuesday, September, 15, 2021 at Mathias Junction, Suame.
The show will be live on Atinka TV at 6.30 p.m and live on Atinka TV Ghana Facebook at same time.
