“Nana Acheampong introduced me to Highlife music”-Daddy Lumba

Iconic highlife songwriter and singer, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, aka Daddy Lumba, has revealed that his former groupmate, Nana Acheampong, made him develop an interest in highlife music.

He made this known during a live performance at the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Center-the second edition of Kab-Fam Legends Night.

Daddy Lumba and Nana Acheampong shared the stage for the first time after parting ways as Lumba Brothers many years ago.

According to Daddy Lumba, he started his music career as a full gospel songwriter and singer until he met Nana Acheampong in Germany, thus before the formation of the group.

He stated emphatically that his success is due to the contributions of his colleagues, for which he will never forget or be ungrateful because highlife is what has made him so successful

For the first time, the ‘Ankwanoma’ hitmaker who is known as the type that does not respond to issues surrounding his personal life and career explained why the Lumba Brothers started working independently.

Years after going their separate ways amidst varied reportage of greed and woman being the underlying factors, yesterday, the two great musicians threw more light on what caused their infamous split and how they met.

They disclosed that they met in 1989 in Germany, where both were seeking greener pastures.

“I was living in a flat when I discovered he had also rented an apartment in the same flat. I would occasionally sing while doing chores and would overhear him doing the same at some point. “After a while, we became friends,” Nana Acheampong said.

“I introduced him to the band I was playing with…they were whites and they agreed he come to be part of us. We performed on several shows, but after a while we decided to come together and produce our own music, so we went into the studio,” he explained.

The ‘Simiso’ composer and singer said after playing shows for almost a decade with Daddy Lumba in Germany, Lumba relocated to another city.

The relocation, he said, couldn’t allow Daddy Lumba to easily attend studio sessions due to the distance hence they agreed to part ways.
