The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with a shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.
According to a police statement issued by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit on Saturday, the arrests followed preliminary investigations into the incident, which occurred on June 21, 2026.
Police said a subsequent search operation led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, a Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and other communication equipment believed to be connected to the case.
Investigators disclosed that officers from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty, responded to a distress call from a residence in Kwabenya and proceeded to the scene.
Upon arrival, police established that a ceremony was underway at the residence of Mr Tamakloe Safo Jetrohphah in Akweteman when Ms Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and sought entry to the premises but was denied access.
Further investigations revealed that armed security personnel stationed at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in injuries to Ms Adwoa Safo. Police also found multiple gunshot marks on her vehicle.
The six suspects, together with the recovered weapons and other exhibits, have been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police say efforts are underway to identify and arrest additional persons who may have been involved in the incident.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that investigations are continuing and that all individuals found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
