The Ghana Investment Promotion Center has held its annual CEO’s Q2 Breakfast Meeting at the Labadi Beach Hotel.
The meeting held under the theme “Regulatory Framework for Tourism: Infrastructure and Its Growth” provided an excellent platform for relevant stakeholders in the tourism industry to network, exchange ideas, & delve deeper into discussions related to government policies and regulatory reforms crafted to promote private sector participation in the development of tourism infrastructure.
The CEOs Breakfast Meeting, through panel discussions, keynote speeches, and interactive sessions, explored the various issues besetting the country’s Tourism sectors and ways to build strategic partnerships aimed at improving the sector.
The event was well attended by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) CEO’s of hotels, managers of tourists and recreational sites and a host of others.
Speaking to pressmen after the event, Chief Executive officer (CEO) for GIPC, Yofi Grant reiterated concerns on the multiplicity of taxes that has made Ghana an expensive destination for tourists.
“We have heard from many operators here and they are concerned about the multiplicity of taxes. Some of the VAT practices and so we will work with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Ministry of finance to see how we can rationalize some of these things to make it more attractive, not for only foreigners but for the indigenous people too,” GIPC CEO, Yofi Grant noted.
Also speaking to the media, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyemang commended the GIPC for the meeting and assured the general public that the GTA will work with the relevant stakeholders to ensure that Ghana’s tourism gets to its apex.
He added that the Authority has taken note of the grievances and concerns in the industry will not relent on it.
“We know that the tourism industry has the tendency of creating more jobs and boost Ghana’s economy. We are grateful to the GIPC for this initiative, we have taken the concerns and grievances into consideration and we will work with the relevant stakeholders to ensure that the concerns raised here are addressed,” he added.
