Two armed robbers killed in shootout with Tema Police

Two armed robbers were killed on Monday night during a shoot with officers of the Tema Police Command at Community 11.

The Tema Regional Police PRO, ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwa in a statement said, the police on Monday 22 January, 2018 at around 9:30pm had a distress call from a victim who was being robbed around the Community Eleven Shell Filling Station by two armed men on a motorbike and subsequently rushed to the spot.

He noted that when the police patrol team arrived at the scene, the robber with a gun fired at the police while the police returned fire and one was hit while the other robber ran to seek cover in a big nearby gutter.

The robber later managed to get onto the motorbike in an attempt to escape but was given a hot chase by the police to the Kpone Landfill Site where he also engaged in exchange of firing with the police and was shot.

One of the suspects was identified as Raymond Banini alias Short Carpo, a notorious armed robber whose case is pending at the Ashaiman Circuit Court for robbery and is on court bail.

Both robbers were rushed to Police Hospital where they were pronounced dead by the medical officer on duty. The bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital Morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, one motorbike, a locally manufactured pistol and a handbag identified as that of the complainant were retrieved. The Tema Regional CID is investigating the case.
