The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 21-year-old Daniel Tuffuor, a final-year student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), in connection with the death of Miss Joana Deladem Yabani.

Ms. Yabani, a Biological Sciences final-year student, was discovered lifeless around 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025, near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre by campus security personnel.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, Tuffuor’s movements were captured on campus CCTV footage, which played a crucial role in his arrest.

“We identified the suspect through CCTV surveillance on the KNUST campus, and he is currently assisting us with investigations,” DCOP Cudjoe confirmed.

In response to the tragic incident, the police have increased security measures on campus, introducing round-the-clock surveillance to ensure the safety of students and staff.

“We are intensifying our security operations on campus. Officers will be conducting 24-hour patrols and closely monitoring activities,” DCOP Cudjoe added.

KNUST, in a statement released on Thursday, February 27, acknowledged the incident and confirmed that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, had personally assured the Vice-Chancellor of enhanced security on campus.

Anita Akua Kyerewaa Kuma, the Assistant Registrar for Media and Events at KNUST, expressed gratitude to the IGP for his swift intervention and support.

The police investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover the circumstances surrounding Ms. Yabani’s death and ensure justice for her family.
