GJA Launches 29th Media Awards

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has launched its 29th Media Awards, calling on journalists to promote peace, integrity, and national unity through their work.

This year’s awards, themed “Safeguarding Ghana’s Future: The Role of the Media in Promoting Peace, Security and the Fight Against Galamsey,” will be held for the first time outside Accra — at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, said hosting the event under the royal patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is a historic honour, symbolizing national unity and the value of journalism.

The launch also introduced the 2025 Awards Committee, led by veteran journalist Gabriel Bosompem, to oversee the selection process for key awards like Journalist of the Year and Best Female Journalist.

Weekend Events in Kumasi:

  • Nov 7 – Welcome Reception at Lancaster Hotel
  • Nov 8 – Health Walk (6 AM), Awards Ceremony (4 PM), Dinner Reception (7 PM)

The GJA will provide accommodation and meals for journalists attending.

Speakers at the launch, including KGL Group’s Alex Apau Dadey, Prince Oheneba Nana Kwaku Duah, and Turkish Ambassador Hüseyin Gungor, praised the media’s role in promoting truth and national development, especially in fighting illegal mining and misinformation.

The GJA thanked sponsors like KGL Group and others, and called for continued support as the media prepares for this landmark celebration in Kumasi.
