The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has expressed confidence that the newly launched Gomoa Easter Carnival has the potential to become Ghana’s biggest cultural export if properly supported and sustained.
Speaking at the launch of the carnival at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, Mr. Dwumfour said the initiative represents a major opportunity to promote Ghana’s culture while boosting tourism and economic development.
Mr. Dwumfour, who also serves as Chairman of the event’s planning committee, described the carnival as a visionary initiative by the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus.

He explained that the festival seeks to transform the Easter season into a vibrant celebration that goes beyond its religious significance.
According to him, the theme for the event, “Easter Beyond Faith: Experiencing Culture, Community and Celebration,” reflects the broader goal of bringing people together through culture, music, arts and tourism.
“Across the world, cultural festivals have become powerful engines of economic development. They attract visitors, create jobs, stimulate businesses and energise local economies,” he said.

Mr. Dwumfour said the Gomoa Easter Carnival is expected to attract tourists, corporate leaders, dignitaries, members of the diaspora and cultural enthusiasts from across the world.
He noted that such gatherings create economic opportunities for hotels, restaurants, transport operators, artisans and other small businesses within the host communities.

The GJA President stressed that although the initiative is being championed by the Gomoa Central MP, the carnival is intended to serve the entire Gomoa area and Ghana as a whole.
He added that the festival would be professionally managed with the support of corporate partners to ensure that it becomes a structured and sustainable national event.
Mr. Dwumfour commended sponsors and corporate institutions that had already committed their support to the initiative even before its official launch, describing it as a sign of confidence in the project.

He also praised members of the planning committee and key contributors, including CEO of EMY Africa, Kojo Soboh, and filmmaker Kofi Asamoah, for their dedication to the organisation of the event.
Mr. Dwumfour further noted that Gomoa is gradually gaining attention as a tourism destination, recalling that former President John Dramani Mahama and his family spent part of the Christmas holidays in the area.

He therefore encouraged Ghanaians and visitors to participate in the Gomoa Easter Carnival, expressing optimism that the event would grow into one of Africa’s most significant cultural festivals.
