Apple grows in A\R: CSIR to visit Wiamoase to asses real situation

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Crops Research Institute in Kumasi has said that it is planning to visit Wiamoase tomorrow (Tuesday, May 19th 2020) to asses the real situation of the supposed apple tree which went viral on social media over the weekend.
The said tree, sprouted with apples in Wiamoase in the Ashanti Region went viral on social media after one Barima Nana Osei Bonsu posted it on his Facebook page.
According to him, it took 5 years for the tree to bear the apple fruits.
He pleaded with authorities to come to the aid of the family to get all the needed medicines to keep the tree in shape and also called on Agricultural researchers and experts to come and examine the tree, and if possible make available seeds and seedlings for mass production.
Although a lot of Ghanaians expressed their excitement for seeing an apple tree grow on a Ghanaian soil for the first time, others also tried to prove to the public that the said tree is not an apple tree but another tree that looks exactly like an apple.
Meanwhile, based on that, the CSIR-Crops Research Institute in Kumasi has said that it is planning to visit Wiamoase tomorrow to asses the real situation so the institute can give an informed opinion to the public.
