EC will only declare accurate results within 24 hours- Jean Mensa

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has assured the public that it will declare the results of the December 7, 2020 presidential and parliamentary election within 24 hours.

Although the EC announced its intention of declaring the results timely and orderly earlier, it noted that a section of the public complained that the EC might not be able to declare the accurate results within the said 24 hours.

But reacting to such apprehension by the public at the last edition of the “Let the Citizens know” series before the election, the EC Chairperson, Mrs Jean Mensa assured the public that the declared results will be a true reflection of the will of the people as documented on the pink sheets.

“The only aspect of our processes that has changed is the efficiency that we have built into them. We are confident that with the total commitment from all our officials, we will witness the timely delivery of the 2020 presidential results, God being our helper,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mrs Mensa said the commission will post regular updates of the results on its websites in order to keep stakeholders informed and as well provide them with accurate results before the declaration of results.

“As you are aware, the results are certified results and may take slightly longer to upload because of the processes in place. However, we have put in place mechanisms to ensure the release of timely results,” she added.

Security
Touching on security, the EC Chairperson said it has provided the security with relevant information including details of the polling stations, collation centres and conflict-prone areas and are therefore confident that the arrangements with the security agencies will contribute to ensuring law and order throughout the election process.
