New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director, Yaw Buaben Asamoa has condemned the “do or die” comment by Ghana’s former President, John Dramani Mahama.
According to him, the comment confirms that the former President lacks leadership skills to rule this peaceful country again.
Mr. Mahama in an interview with Techiman-based Akina FM’s on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, as part of his thank-you tour, indicated that the 2024 election was going to be a “do-or-die” affair at the polling stations.
He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had learnt lessons from the 2020 general elections.
Mr. Mahama claimed that president Akufo Addo had made elections “a life and death” matter by enlisting members of vigilante groups- Delta forces and Invisible forces into the various security agencies.
He said, “We have learnt our lessons from happenings during the 2020 polls. The 2024 elections will be won or lost at the polling station. It will [be do-or-die] at the polling stations. The right thing must be done during the polls. We will win the elections at the polling station and won’t wait for collation centre results nor petition the Supreme Court if aggrieved,” he said.
The comment has attracted criticisms from a section of the public who want the former President to retract and apologise
However, the former president in an interview on Moonlite FM in Sunyani on Wednesday, September 8, justified his comments saying they were harmless and that “those who don’t understand English should stop the school interpretation”.
He insisted that “there was fraud in [the 2020] elections. . .that is why I said we learned lesson from it”.
Speaking in an interview on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with sit-in host, Nana Owoahene Acheampong, Mr. Buaben Asamoa said former President Mahama is only seeking to be the leader for this country again to steal from the State coffers to cater for his family and himself adding that Ghanaians will reject him again in 2024.
He said Mahama and his NDC have nothing better to offer the good people of Ghana.
